What?
It’s a hackathon about using the Avaya resources to solve problems in Education, Healthcare, Energy / Environment, and St. Mary’s Food Bank, see bottom of this webpage for more info.
Who?
Anyone who’s interested, web dev skills will help, #yesphx members are welcome.
Why?
To showcase the power of Avaya OneCloud CPaaS, network with great people, and possibly win some of the $15k in prizes + other goodies.
Avaya ENGAGE, hosted by Avaya and the International Avaya User Group (IAUG), is the premier event for the future of communications. Avaya ENGAGE 2020 brings you four days of workshops, inspirational speakers, and experts. One of their keynote speakers is Earvin “Magic” Johnson, NBA Hall of Famer and Entrepreneur!
The weekend (1-2 Feb 2020) before Avaya ENGAGE is TADHack-mini Phoenix.
Communications is now democratized so anyone can program with it. You can add programmable voice, calling, messages, video, faxing (yep, fax still exists), and so much more through easy to use APIs/SDKs.
TADHack is an event in which people (e.g. students, graphic designers, project managers, product managers, IT Managers, Avaya ENGAGE attendees, computer programmers, interested individuals, and subject-matter-experts) collaborate on a software project focused on programmable telecoms. You do not need to be a coder to take part. The most challenging part of TADHack is we ask you to use Avaya’s resources (see below) to solve problems that matter to you across your home, work or community life.
In addition to the Avaya teams who own the resources, we also have 4 experienced app developers on site throughout the event to give you a helping-hand with your hacks.
For Avaya ENGAGE attendees you get hands-on experience with communication APIs. You’ll experience first-hand how programmable communications can solve a variety of problems, and network with developers to witness the power of programmable communications from Avaya.
For those not attending Avaya ENGAGE you get to build your portfolio of skills in programmable communication that will be in demand for the next decade.
We encourage people who cannot attend TADHack in person in Phoenix to take part remotely. We accept remote entries.
Winners and runners up from TADHack-mini Phoenix can pitch at Avaya ENGAGE for even greater exposure! We have a session dedicated to the TADHack Winners. You also get free entry to Avaya ENGAGE, perhaps you’ll meet Magic Johnson?
TADHack is all about learning, sharing, coding, creating, and most importantly having fun with a diverse group of people. And if that is not enough to entice you, we have lots of cash prizes, free entry, and free food.

- Healthcare: for example alerts, reminders, support applications, IoT devices like fitness/health trackers, to help patients and healthcare providers achieve better health outcomes.
- Energy & Environment: for example promoting the use of green energy or enforcing / raising awareness of environmental policies.
- St. Mary’s Food Bank: Today we only have a webpage where people can enter their zip code or what they are specifically looking for (a hot meal, a non-perishable food box, fresh produce) and see what services are available to them close by, http://www.azfoodbanks.org/
index.php/foodbank/index/. We’d like to improve access to this service across voice, text, or an app on people’s phones.
